About the site
-
The shelter was the first structure built on site and remains the hub of Kinder Croft. It has an indoor/outdoor kitchen, cosy reading platform and it’s where the children enjoy their meals.
-
This is our cosy fully insulated indoor winter shelter. When the weather is particularly poor this space is used for indoor games, warming up and meals. All with the purpose of meeting the childrens needs, and to help them feel confident to head back out into the forest.
-
We have two composting toilets on site, each with steps to assist younger children and small seat attachments for added comfort. Handwashing water is kept topped up throughout the day to ensure hygiene. The changing room is equipped with a changing mat, spare clothing and puddle suits, so your child is always prepared to stay comfortable and dry, no matter the weather.

At Kinder Croft, children have the opportunity to explore and engage with nature in our outdoor garden area. They enjoy digging, planting, and harvesting, while learning about the natural world around them. Just off the site, nestled under the hillside, is our spacious polytunnel. This warm and sheltered space allows children to plant seeds, water plants, and observe their growth throughout the year. Children are always supervised when leaving the site and while spending time in the polytunnel.

At Kinder Croft, we love setting off on outdoor adventures with the children. They only leave the site when supervised by at least two adults, ensuring their safety at all times. The First Aid kit is always with us during excursions.
There are many wonderful walks we can take directly from the nursery. Just a short distance away is The West Edge, where the children can visit chickens, ducks, and Timber the horse. As we continue along the track, we reach the Birchwood Trees, where the landscape opens up, offering a perfect opportunity for children to explore nature. They can follow animal tracks, discover hidden corners, and enjoy the beauty of the woods. For those feeling adventurous, we can walk further to a viewpoint, where the children can take in stunning views over Ullapool and out to the sea.
